Nancy Carr, Our Never To Be Forgotten Angel

by Mark Dodge

It is with tearful sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Nancy Carr, a dear friend and a member of FixNation’s Board of Directors.  At the youthful age of 50, Nancy died on February 18, 2011, from complications arising from a long bout with brain cancer.

Karn and I first met Nancy through her support of Dona Baker’s Feral Cat Caretakers Coalition several years ago, developing from the outset a friendship bond with her and her husband, Ronnie.  A genuine lover of cats and strong supporter of TNR, we were struck by her charm, style, grace, intelligence, sense of humor – the whole, wonderful package that was Nancy Carr – and shared many wonderful evenings with them.  In the spring, of 2009, when Karn and I recognized the need to expand our board, the very first person I thought of and asked to be a director was Nancy, who was also the first person to say “Yes.”

During her tenure as a board member, Nancy was always energetic in her support of the organization, contributing many excellent recommendations in the public relations area and introducing us to helpful resources. She took her role in this regard seriously, totally in keeping with her character, and met often with us to discuss FixNation matters.  Above all, Nancy was no “lightweight.”  A very successful executive in a challenging industry, she was always one to think before speaking, and in all of our encounters with her we always learned something and came away feeling we had gained value.

We honor you, Nancy and thank you for gracing our lives with yours while you were here. We’ll always love you and never forget you, Angel…

With Love,
Mark and Karn
