FixNation wants you to know about an important development in Los Angeles concerning TNR. Last month a local judge issued a ruling in response to a lawsuit filed against the City of LA by wild bird groups, ordering that the City of Los Angeles is suspended in supporting and promoting Trap-Neuter-Return as a means to help homeless cats.

Do you have homeless cats in your neighborhood that you would like to get fixed? Do you have a friendly stray cat that you are concerned about? Have you noticed litters of kittens springing up left and right? Or are you a responsible pet owner and would like to get your cat spayed or neutered? We had six very successful Best Friends Catnippers clinics in 2009, fixing nearly 700 cats in total throughout the year. Way to go Catnippers vets and volunteers! We couldn’t have done it without you, so thank you!

Bringing Tame Cats

Tame cats are considered pet cats or even friendly stray cats who have been abandoned or “strayed” from home, but were likely once pet cats. Tame cats can be picked up, held and easily handled. For more clarification on the differences between tame, stray and feral cats, see our FAQ section (above link).

No initial application is needed to bring a tame cat to our clinic, but advance reservations are required.

Feral cats – Step 1) Complete an application

Feral cats are outdoor, free-roaming cats who are not socialized to humans. They are generally wild and unhandleable. Whether you have just one or two cats or kittens who showed up in your yard, or if you are dealing with a feral cat colony of many, you will need to complete our feral cat application form. Feral cats – Step 2) Schedule traps & book reservations

After we receive your application, someone from our team will be following up with you within approximately 72 hours to finish your enrollment.

If you submitted a feral cat application and you do have traps, we will call you to go over our clinic guidelines and protocol with you and immediately get you booked for reservations.

Key Highlights

Whether you’re a master trapper or just a beginner, here are the key highlights you’ll need to remember:

- Never leave a trap out unattended for any length of time, whatsoever.

- Do not trap cats after midnight the night before your appointment, due to the risk of the cat vomiting while undergoing anesthesia.

- Make sure the back of the trap is locked and kept locked.

- Line the bottom of the trap with newspaper.

Appointment day

Check-in time for all cats is is between 7:00 – 8:30 a.m. daily. If you are bringing tame cats, we ask that get to the clinic by 8:00 a.m. to allow more time for health exams before surgery.

Pick-up time is before 5:00 p.m. every weekday except Thursdays. We have extended hours on Thursdays until 7:00 p.m.

If you did not catch any cats for your appointment, please give our office a call that night or first thing in the morning to let us know you won’t make it. You can leave …

Heaven On Earth’s “Spay & Neuter Transport Program” for San Fernando Valley residents

Heaven on Earth Society for Animals, a leading animal rescue group in the Los Angeles area, has launched a transportation program to and from FixNation clinic, specifically for residents within the San Fernando Valley. All you need to do is the trapping, and then HOE will pick up your cats, transport them to FixNation for their spay/neuter appointments, and then return them to you at the end of the day. To schedule transportation with them, please call (818) 474-2700 ext. #6 or email them at spay@heavenlypets.org.
