Congratulations to Alexandra Pereira who won a free outdoor shelter for their colony cats and a bottle of Feral Flower Essence from FixNation board member Jackson Galaxy’s Spirit Essences line through FixNation’s National Feral Cat Day story competition!
In July of this year four kittens were born to a cat who took residence in a nook between my house and the neighbors. I discovered these cats one sunny afternoon and fell for them! They were cute and cheerful. They took in the sun as a group, laying out and taking long summer naps. The owner of the place I rent came over unexpectedly one day and saw the four kittens along with their mama whom I had named Mama Lucy. Despite my pleas, she told me she would spread cat repellent and get rid of the cats on her property. Coincidently, around that time I was going on a trip to Washington. I made arrangements for my cousin to sneak food to these babies and keep them alive until I returned. After the repellent was put down, my cousin reported that she did not see the feral family for two days. When I returned from Washington, there on my front doorstop, I found Mama Lucy, Armanni, and Snowball. Two of the kittens were missing. Although I was vigilant I never saw them again. I can only hope for the best. I could see these kittens growing week after week. I became informed and decided to take them to FixNation. I waited the recommended amount of time and just when the kittens were about 2 pounds each I took them in along with Mama Lucy. Upon picking them up from FixNation, I learned that the two kittens had respiratory infections and Snowball had an ulcer in her eye that needed immediate medical attention. I took her into my regular vet who referred us to an ophthalmologist. I was terrified as I knew I could not afford such expensive treatment for Snowball. I opened up a GoFundMe account and family and friends raised $600 toward her treatment. Snowball is undergoing antibiotic treatment and I am hoping she will be able to keep her eye. Armanni was adopted by a friend of mine and she is a happy little princess in her new home. Mama Lucy comes for breakfast and dinner every single day.
