This past Feral Cat Day, which occurred on Sunday October 16, was one that FixNation made quite an impact during. Karn Myers was asked to present during the many workshops for the Feral Cat Caretakers’ Coalition sponsored event “Sanctuaries Without Walls Community Cat Workshop.” This event was held in the modern NKLA Pet Adoption Center located in Santa Monica, where many cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies can be adopted.
Representatives from other nonprofits and charities also hosted their own panels during this event, most of which were focused on Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) protocols, but there were other topics such as the one given by Ben Lehrer the president of Kitten Rescue which focused on socializing and adopting kittens.
FixNation’s “Trap-Neuter-Return — A Guide for Transporting Ferals and Strays,” captivated the audience during its entire hour. FixNation’s seminar began with co-founder Karn Myers giving a speech about FixNation, and how the promote TNR, and after Karn’s speech and introduction FixNation’s very own trapping expert Joe Federico took the stage and began demonstrating the fundamentals of trapping stray cats. Federico went through every step of the procedure involving trapping the cats, while using an actual trap to demonstrate to the crowd. Federico even showed off the new wireless remote based cat trap and activated it from another room, impressing the audience.
Once the demonstration and guide was complete, the audience had the opportunity to ask some very good questions. One question that stood out involved what you were supposed to do if you accidentally caught a skunk. Thankfully, Joe and Karn knew the protocol and were able to give a detailed answer, which could save future trappers from a rather unpleasant experience.
With Feral Cat Day come and gone, we wanted to remind all of our supporters that this upcoming Saturday, October 29, is the annual Dia de los Muertos event at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and we would love to see you there!
