Since 2007, FixNation has been committed to offering support and services to promote the welfare of cats across Los Angeles. Its main mode of support is through Trap-Neuter-Return, which trains people and provides equipment for trapping feral cats, bringing them in for free spaying/neutering, and returning them safely into the wild. This process helps manage over population and unnecessary deaths in feral cat communities. FixNation’s full-time spay and neuter clinic in the San Fernando Valley includes on-site veterinarians who sterilize up to 100 cats per day. Services are free for feral cats and prices can be greatly reduced for pet owners. The Wellness Clinic also provides affordable health exams, vaccines, tests, and microchips.
Best Friends Animal Society also works to prevent unnecessary animal deaths through spaying/neutering and increasing pet adoptions. Since pioneering the no-kill movement nearly 30 years ago, they have reduced the number of annual unnecessary animal deaths from 17 million to 4 million. They hope to make Los Angeles a no-kill community through partnering with like-minded local organizations.
National Feral Cat Day Celebration is a great opportunity to celebrate the hard work and progress being done to promote the humane treatment of cats, meet other cat lovers, and further your education on important animal issues.
