As you know, we recently made the difficult decision to temporarily close our clinic. We know FixNation serves a critical need, but we are a small organization and must put the health and well-being of our staff and volunteers first and foremost. Without them, we would simply be unable to function.
We also felt we had an obligation to do our part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our community. This is in line with the American Veterinary Medicine Association, which considers spay/neuter surgeries as elective procedures. Suspending all non-urgent procedures will help free up supplies for human medical professionals who may need it on the front lines, and that has to be the priority during this very challenging time.
Springtime is Kitten Season, the worst time possible to temporarily close the clinic. We are aware that many of you are anxious about your community cats, especially those that are pregnant or caring for newborn kittens. We’ve compiled some resources (see links below) that will help get us all through this lockdown period. Please know that our team is eager to get back to the clinic once restrictions are lifted and it’s safe to resume operating as usual.
In the meantime, here’s how you can continue to help homeless cats:
- Continue to provide food and water to the stray and feral cats in your care. They need you now more than ever! And please be on the lookout for cats that have been newly abandoned.
- Offer to assist colony caregivers who are elderly or self-isolating.
- Socialize young kittens born to any community cats. Click here for a helpful fact sheet.
- See our website for helpful tips on caring and feeding newborn kittens.
- Monitor our website and social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) for updates and announcements.
